This fascinating series of photographs shows the construction of the Eiffel Tower, which has become one of the signature landmarks of France and one of the most famous landmarks in the world. The tower was constructed in 1889 as a feature in an exhibition to celebrate the anniversary of the French Revolution, and at the time of its construction was considered by many to be an eyesore. Time has changed this opinion, and now the Tower is recognized as a beautiful symbol for the City of Lights.
